Dixie II
There are two paddle wheelers (well, diesel powered with the Mississippi
ginger-bread), serving Lake Tahoe. The "Dixie II" sails from Zephyr
Cove in Nevada on Tahoe's eastern shore, a short distance from Stateline.
The second ship, the Tahoe Queen, sails from South Lake Tahoe, at Ski Run
Marina. Both ships in summer run cruises into Emerald Bay. During
winter, one ship will sail the route from South Lake Tahoe to a pier that
provides direct access for skiers into Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley.
Photos featured on this page were taken aboard the Dixie II during summer 2004. Dixie
II has a small glass bottom viewing port area in the lower salon - you
basically only see the bottom while the ship passes through the entrance to
Emerald Bay - the rest of Lake Tahoe is FAR too deep for such viewing.
