Fallen Leaf Lake

under construction

Location:  South Lake Tahoe, California.

Getting There:

Camping/Lodging:  More campsites, motels, hotels, etc than you can shake a stick at.  That said, summer brings crowds, so if camping, you should reserve a site.  One of the many area campgrounds is located on the north side fo the lake.

Put-In/Take-Out:  Marina has a launch ramp and beach area at the south end of the lake.

Good Points:  Basically in South Lake Tahoe, without as many people.   Good paddling alternative if the winds are kicking up on the south shore of Tahoe.

Not-as-Good Points:  The access road to the marina and put-in at south end of lake.  It is a one-lane access road, and while the sign says trailers/motorhomes not recommended, summer time brings in folks who don't read signs!  There are a few pull over areas, but only a few, so be prepared to back up once in a while.  Fortunately, the one-lane portion is not too long.

Lake Size:

Above - Paddling along the western shore of the lake, looking in a northerly direction.  Lake Tahoe is a VERY short distance from the top of the lake in this view.

Above - View of chart of Tahoe.  At top portion shown is South Lake Tahoe, with Emerald Bay also shown.  The lake at the "bottom" of the chart, nearest the compass, is Fallen Leaf Lake.
