The following is a list of some of our favorite paddling sites on the web, along with other useful links to help plan your paddling trip.

  • http://www.paddling.net/  - Comprehensive site with buyers guide, a buyers club, boat review and more.
  • http://www.foldingkayaks.org/makersframe.html  -  Website featuring articles on folding kayaks
  • http://www.pakboats.com/ - Manufacturers site for Pakboat folding canoes and kayaks.  We are giving serious thought to adding a Puffin to our fleet for times when we are traveling by air or small car.
  • http://www.spiritsails.com/home.shtml  -  Sails for both kayaks and canoes.
  • http://www.easykayaker.com/  -  Information and places to stay for kayakers, primary focus is British Columbia/Vancouver Island.
  • http://www.lcrep.org/wt_committee.htm  -  Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership.  Site discusses the Lower Columbia River Water Trail with map, etc.
  •  http://www.wwta.org/  -   Washington Water Trails Association.  Some great info on paddling around Washington State, including Puget Sound, and a Lock-to-Lake trail (Seattle locks into Union Lake, and onto Lake Washington.
  • http://www.huiwaa.org/  -  Kayak club in Hawaii.
  • http://www.wavelengthmagazine.com/index.php  -  Wavelength Magazine.  Published in,  and with articles concentrating on, British Columbia.  We think this is probably the best paddling magazine around, especially in the destination oriented department.  Full PDF version is online.  Wonderful lists and lots of ads for BC outfitters, inns, and everything you might need for a great paddling experience in BC.  We give this publications Five Stars!!!
  • http://www.sierraelevation.com/ - Climbing and hiking supplies.  Store located in downtown Lone Pine, a hop, skip, and throw from Mt. Whitney.  Very handy, quality stuff, and they are even available after hours if you have forgotten an essential for your climb!

Other Links Related to Eastern Sierra and Lone Pine

  •  Whiney Portal Store website  -  Best info for hiking Whitney and surrounding area, plus input on travel info into and out of Lone Pine, etc.  Also booking info for the Mt. Whitney Hostel.   http://www.whitneyportalstore.com/
  •  KSRW aka Sierra Wave  -  One of only a few radio stations in the Eastern Sierra, and the only (cable) TV station.  Has the best website for local news and they keep it up to date, unlike a certain local newspaper's website.  Prior evening news broadcast available on line in video form, works quite well!   On the video screen, you do need to click on the link above the video on the home page marked "click here for today's news", which opens a new window, and you can click on the different segments.   www.ksrw.sierrawave.net/site/
  •   Lone Pine weather (although note this is tied into Bishop airport forecast, but it is close)  -  www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=93545
  •  Inyo National Forest -  http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo/
  •   Camping info and fees for Inyo County campgrounds  -  http://www.inyocountycamping.com/fees_rates.html

Maritime Related Links (not paddling, but of interest to those that like ships and cruise ships)

  •   Maritime Losses, Pirate Reports, and great Screw-Up Photos  - Site is updated almost daily, from liners and cruise ship losses to the basic fishing vessel, world-wide.  Great photos of many incidents. www.cargolaw.com/presentations_casualties.php
  •   Yes, it is in Swedish, but if you are into Ferries, you can figure things out.  Or use the Google translator (which as you will discover does an awful job of translating these pages).  Basic history of hundreds of ferries, etc.  -  www.faktaomfartyg.se/
  •   Maritime Matters has been around for a long time, excellent site on current cruise ship and past liner history, along with news updates.  www.maritimematters.com/
