Folsom Lake

Folsom Lake is formed by the damming of the South Fork and North Fork of the American River.

Photos from a paddle on Folsom Lake, paddling up a portion of the South Fork of the American River from the Salmon Falls put in, May 2010.  Since the lake was near full, current was weak enough to paddle up a fair distance upstream from the bridge.  The put-in for this paddle also happens to be the take-out area for rafters and commercial outfitters running the South Fork, which is the reason for a relatively huge parking lot in the middle of nowhere.  Note that this "nowhere" is surrounded by very expensive homes on large pieced of land!

Ready for launch at put-in.  Pebbles, not sand.

Salmon Falls Bridge.  Second put-in/take-out is just to the right at far end of bridge (seen on photo at left).

Parking lot - and this is only about 1/2 of it.

Launch Area, with Folsom at near full level.

Launch area - note $$$$ homes on hill.

Photos below are from a visit during November 2007 during a period of very low lake levels.  Taken from the Low Water launch ramp area of Granite Bay.

This is actually below the low level ramp!
