Lake George

Location: Mammoth Lakes area

Getting There:  US Hwy 395 to the Mammoth Lakes turn off (Hwy 203).  Head into town.  Continue on same road which will change name to Lake Mary Road (do not turn right towards Mammoth Ski area).  Once you reach Lake Mary, follow signs to Lake George campground.

Camping/Lodging:  Major hotels and motels in area, condos, and lots of great campsites.  Note the camping season is short, and getting a spot can be difficult (but worth the effort).

Put-In/Take-Out: At the small resort at Lake George, located at the end of the road into Lake George Campground.  July 2007 there was a $3 launch fee for kayaks, canoes, and floats.  $7 for other vessels.

Good Points:  Small, but the views are wonderful, with Crystal Crag looming above the lake.

Not-as-Good Points:  Can't think of any, except for the smallish size.

Lake Size:  Roughly 80 acres.

Photos below were taken 22 July 2007.

Lakes here are so close to each other, that each is only a few minutes slow drive away. Kayaks sans roofrack for the short trip.
