Odd Bits

Photos that do not relate to kayaking, but do relate to the Eastern Sierra in some fashion or other.  Photos posted for friends to view, that we had nowhere else to post.

Like Swallows to Capistrano, Turkey Vultures return to Lone Pine.  Sign of warmer weather and Spring on the way.  Photo taken early on Saturday, 14 March 2009.  Needless to say, Mt. Whitney is in center of photo.

Below is a photo heading down from Mt Whitney after retrieving golf balls from waters below Mt. Whitney summit :)  Note we are going backwards over one of the rapids in the Alabama Hills rock garden before it joins Lone Pine Creek.

Here is the world's most scenic garbage dump.  Lone Pine's own landfill, recently changed the location in the landfill where you dump your trash.  Photo taken by Keith on 19 November 2007.  Clear morning.  Lone Pine Peak and Mt. Whitney provide the beauty.

Alabama Hills Rock Gardens

Or, a kayak playing "Ironman".  These photos were taken in same area as much of the movie Ironman was filmed.

For ocean kayakers, a rock garden is a basically a bunch of boulders/rock formations that you can kayak in and around.  Here is Lone Pine's own version...

Kayaking down the Alabamas. Water level was a tad lower than normal :)

Dan adjusting the AdvancedFrame for her "shot". Sierra in background.

View of Alabama Hills rock formations that are so popular with film makers and commercials.

Lone Pine Peak on left. Mt Whitney is not really visable, but would be behind the boat's bow.
