Saddlebag Lake
Saddlebag is the highest lake in California that is reachable by
road. There is a 2 mile road off of Hwy 120 near Tioga Lake that takes you
to Saddlebag. Most of the 2 mile is dirt road, with two section that are
paved (these are where the road climbs in elevation). The campground is
good, about 300 yard or so from the marina and resort. The resort is
basically a day operation, with a one dock marina, water taxi service to the
upper end of the lake (with easy walk to 25 other lakes), and a luncheon
counter. There is a launch fee of $5 per boat, which DOES include canoes
and kayaks. The season for the resort is only about 10 weeks, the resort
and water taxi ALWAYS close on the last day of September.

Perhaps hard to see, but north of the lake is the 25 Lakes area. Hop the water taxi from Saddlebag, and you have 24 lakes in a 5 mile hiking loop!

Water Taxi shown. The trail around the lake can be seen directly above the water taxi. Taxi saves about 2 miles each way when hiking into 25 lakes.
