Salmon Bay

Lake Washington Ship Canal

Salmon Bay is northwest of Lake Union.  Home to a huge fishing fleet based at Fisherman's Terminal.

Yes, the page heading says Salmon Bay, but we do have a few Lake Union photos. This is a public use park and put-in at Eastlake (the eastern shore of Lake Union)

Put-in shown is at the Terry Petus Park, Lake Union. Parking is a distinct problem, as there is very little of it in the heavily residential area

This is the public launch ramp, not far from the northeast end of the Ballard Bridge, just off of 14th Ave NW

Ballard Bridge, looking southwest towards the Fisherman's Terminal

One long, followed by one short blast of the horn, and this happens! Bridge is actually opening for a large tug just out of sight

Salmon Bay is full of ships, all sizes and types. This is freshwater. Part of the Cruise West fleet laid up for winter. Photos of fleet were taken at the end of March 2007. Fleet will "wake" up in several weeks for the Alaskan cruise season

Another Cruise West ship. Berthing is crowded and tight!

Despite the heavy boat and auto traffic, there is a lot of wildlife to be seen in the ship canal
